Berlin. February 20
To my amazement I was all over the Berlin Film Festival and I didn't even fly in. My web address somehow did the rounds to many an oooh and aah.
Aside from luvverly cute comments I was cyber spotted by one of the most incredible directors, who the day after we discovered each other found his film with three Oscar nominations. And next thing I know Paul has scooped the Golden Bear for Best Film.
I'm talking about Magnolia man Paul Thomas Anderson and let me tell you Paul I'm putting the word out, all my friends will be talking up the opus.
I intend to give this film Oscar buzz so anyone logging on go out and talk it up!
In Paris I caught up with the three hour plus epic which naturally drew my attention because it features four legged friends (I won't tell you how they end up because it will ruin the suspense and spoil my dinner). I can reveal, however, Paul was intending to make even greater use of dogs in a key climatic scene, it was to have rained cats and dogs not frogs.
Despite his desire to throw dogs from the sky, in the company of cats no less, it turns out he has a soft spot for hounds. More particularly a member of my family, a Staffordshire Terrier named Janet who lives in Paul's pad. He has promised to send me a snap. Whooppe Dog dating on the net. This could be the first transatlantic canine dog match- a cyber affair in the making. Wonderfully Paul has since been in touch with a most flattering request to meet up. Moveover Astor and Verdel. Further excitement is that John, Paul's agent, is getting in touch. Hello Hollywood.
I know you won't mind Paul, but I am bolding sharing your effusive note penned to me in Berlin. My fondest regards to you and Janet and John, The Mutt

Mutley So sorry to have missed you in Berlin -please can we talk when I get to Paris? Please call anytime. I look forward to meeting you in person. I'm wondering, have you had a chance to look over my new script? See you on Concorde?
Paul
ps Janet is so eager to meet you. Take care!

e-mail from Alice Evans:

My dear Mutley,

I am really sorry not to be with you to celebrate the opening of the most adorable web-doggy-puppy-site but unfortunately, I am currently spending most of my time with 102 dalmatians..., here in London.

Don't be jealous, I will be back for you only. Please, take care of our friend Toby and have a wonderful Christmas season.

Love

Alice

Time Out Paris Eating & Drinking guide:

In a city where our four-legged friends receive royal treatment, Mutley is a prince among hounds.

The perky fox terrier has carved himself a niche as a cross between model and a celebrity walker; in a quaint role reversal, he enjoys the company of such lovelies as Naomi Campbell, Charlotte Rampling and Ivanka Trump. At his catwalk début, this little dog with a big personality shared the limelight with Danni Minogue and more recently he walked with Ivanka Trump on the other end of the lead at the trendy l’Epicerie show. Mutley did not spring from nowhere as he had already modelled a moody shot on the tip of the Ile St-Louis for an international Ungaro ad campaign, in grainy black and white, plus an editorial shoot in Harpers & Queen with a model wearing Chanel. Given this fashionable pedigree it is no surprise that restaurant doors at chic establishments across Paris are open to Mutley.
Close to home in the Marais I opt for something of an intellectual ambience at Les Philosophes. But of course dogs can not live on texts alone and waiter Jean-Pierre is always ready with a chunk of baguette and sometimes I stop by to wait outside the door for a snack. Café Beaubourg is something a scene as there are a number of other dogs who frequent the place, Personally I think they are being used as a vulgar fashion accessory. Yuk. Others treat it as home and run around everywhere. Me, myself, I cosy in beneath the sturdy chairs, which are almost like a kennel, with both a front and back door.
A couple of places in the Marais reserve me a royal reception. Camille is a busy place but they always have time to chat and best of all they wrap in silver foil the chunky bone from the pot-au-feu. It lasts me over a week.
But top marks go to Chez Gisèle (72 rue Vieille-du-Temple, 3rd/ 01.42.78.21.22). ‘We love dogs’, patronne Virginie told me, ‘We don’t have a dog menu but what would you like?’ – à la carte no less!
While I’m very much in touch with the streets, there are occasions when I really want to go luxury in the grand style. If I’m feeling really regal I will visit Lapérouse; the manager Mr Minot is a big fan who offers me the choice of the lovely grand salle with other diners or my own splendid, private petit salon with

a sofa, plus a selection of mini gâteaux including delicious brandysnaps to nibble at. There he regales me with stories of his celebrity-studded years at Le Fouquet’s on the Champs-Elysées, assuring me that I am on his

canine A-list. I am the dog that ate Paris. For the photograph, our waiter was most friendly and said he would introduce me to his lady labrador. Can’t wait.
